Cave de Cairanne
![]() | The village of Cairanne in the southern Rhone Valley is one of the 16 permitted to use the village name for its production of the Cotes du Rhone villages, and its wines are renowned for their quality and value. Created in 1929, the Cave de Cairanne now represents some 200 growers, controlling 1200 hectares, 80% of the appellation. The vines are planted on clay and limestone soils, with the finest wines coming from the profusion of stony hillsides in the area. |
Ninety percent of the production of the Cave is red wines, with Grenache being the dominant grape variety, complimented by Syrah, Mourvedre and old Carignan.
In recent years, big investment in modernising the cellar, plus careful attention to lowering yields in the vineyards has led to winemaker Remi Cook pushing the wines to even higher levels of quality.
